Pedestrian Crosswalks

    Delaware Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons

Being installed at appropriate locations to improve pedestrian safety are Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs). DelDot says these are “pedestrian-actuated devices used in conjunction with a pedestrian warning sign that are intended to improve safety at uncontrolled, marked crosswalks. The device includes two rectangular-shaped yellow indications, each with an LED-array-based light source, that flash with a high frequency when activated by the pedestrian. When activated, studies have shown that motorists tend to yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks more frequently, making pedestrian crossings safer for all road users.”
