Which Delaware Defensive Driving Course Do I Need for the Insurance Discount?
If you have never taken a Delaware Defensive Driving course, or it has been more than five years since you last completed one, take the Basic Course for a 10% insurance discount.

If you completed a Delaware Defensive Driving course within the past five years—even if your three-year insurance discount has already expired—take the Advanced/Refresher Course for a 15% insurance discount.

When to Take the Advanced Defensive Driving Course
Take the Advanced Course if you completed a Delaware Defensive Driving course within the past five years. This includes drivers whose three-year insurance discount has already expired, as long as it has not been more than five years since the previous course was completed.
The Advanced/Refresher Course gives you a 15% insurance discount for three years.

When to Take the Basic Defensive Driving Course
Take the Basic Defensive Driving Course if:
• You have never completed a Delaware Defensive Driving course; or
• It has been more than five years since you completed your last Delaware Defensive Driving course.
The Basic Course gives you a 10% insurance discount for three years.
Took the Basic Course and Want to Move From the 10% to the 15% Insurance Discount?
If you completed the Basic Course, you don’t have to wait until your three-year insurance discount expires to take the Advanced Course. You can take the Refresher Course during the eligible early-renewal period and increase your insurance discount from 10% to 15%.
