Delaware is one of only a few states with laws in place to foster and protect bicycle use. Persons on bicycles have rights and responsibilities just like any other vehicle on Delaware roadways.

It is important to anticipate potential conflicts and hazards involving cyclists. They operate with significantly less mass and are especially vulnerable when sharing the road with motor vehicles. Always be aware of cyclists in the area surrounding your vehicle, give ample space when passing and keep in mind that Delaware’s Safe Yielding Law permits cyclists in Delaware to treat most Stop signs as Yield signs.

SPECIAL NOTE: A bicycle being PUSHED by the rider has the same rights and responsibilities as a pedestrian.
