HAWK Traffic Control Device

A Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon, or HAWK (High intensity Activated cross WalK) signal is a traffic control device intended to warn and control traffic at pedestrian crossing locations.

When a pedestrian pushes the button to active the HAWK signal, a flashing yellow light will display momentarily to vehicular traffic indicating they should prepare to stop. It will then go to solid yellow, which means the signal is about to turn red. When the signal turns red, vehicles should stop and remain stopped until all pedestrians have completely crossed the roadway. When the red light begins flashing, vehicles may again proceed thru the walkway after a complete stop as long as it does not endanger pedestrians or other traffic.
